Sustainable forestry is practiced across the Commonwealth of Virginia. Recent data indicates that in Virginia the volume of wood harvested is less than half of the total annual growth (VDOF 2016). While some of the general public may view forest harvesting as a negative environmental impact, forestry is one of the most sustainable and beneficial industries in the country. Forest management, including timber harvesting operations, provide benefits to our communities, including jobs, wood products, recreational value and water quality protection.
