Introduction

The following charts summarize label and manufacturer guidelines for plant-back and early postemergence restrictions when establishing various forage crops. Users should always consult the product label for current restrictions prior to any herbicide application.

60 days for smooth brome. 21 days for all other species.

Glyphosate; PastureGard HL, Cleargraze; Stinger HL

Early Postemergence Herbicide Restrictions for Cool-Season Perennial Grasses: How Soon After Planting Can I Spray? Orchardgrass, Tall Fescue, Kentucky Bluegrass, Smooth Brome, Perennial Ryegrass, etc.

Cimarron Plus, Chisum

6 months for bluegrass, orchardgrass, and brome species, 12 months for timothy, and 24 months for tall fescue. It is not advisable to use on established timothy or tall fescue if stunting cannot be tolerated.

Crossbow, Crossroad; Facet L; Garlon 4 Ultra; Grazon PD3, Gunslinger P+D; Quinstar 4L; Remedy Ultra; Stinger HL; Surmount

Established plants only. Seedlings must be well established as indicated by 5 collared leaves, tillering, and development of a secondary root system.

Prowl H20

Established plants only. Seedlings must have 6 or more tillers present.

2,4-D LV4; Clarity; DuraCor; GrazonNext HL, Gunslinger AMP; Milestone, Whetstone; PastureGard HL, Cleargraze; Weedmaster

Seedlings must have a minimum of 3 collared leaves (V3). Under good growing conditions, V3 may be reached within 30 days after emergence.

Glyphosate; Plateau, Panoramic 2SL Not labeled

Chaparral

Not recommended on tall fescue or timothy. Other species should reach tillering before any postemergence application.

NovaGraz

Tall fescue, orchardgrass, and timothy are tolerant of 24 fl oz/ac of this product once plants have developed 3 collared leaves. For other species or with higher rates, do not use until well established as indicated by tillering, development of a secondary root system, and vigorous growth. Not recommended for use on smooth brome.

No restrictions for switchgrass, but the best crabgrass control with Facet is achieved after the crabgrass has emerged. All other species are 10 months.

Cimarron Plus, Chisum

Apply any time after emergence at a rate of up to 0.25 oz/ac. Can use up to 1.25 oz. after seedlings are established, as indicated by 5

collared leaves.

Grazon PD3, Gunslinger P+D

Apply only to established plants. Seedlings must be well established as indicated by 5 collared leaves. Applications during initial greenup in early spring could delay or suppress emergence. If temporary suppression of new growth cannot be tolerated, apply prior to greenup or after vigorous vegetative growth resumes.

Plateau, Panoramic 2SL

Do not use on switchgrass or eastern gamagrass. Big bluestem, little bluestem, and indiangrass must be well established as indicated by 5 collared leaves.
Weedmaster; Chaparral; Crossbow, Crossroad; DuraCor; PastureGard HL, Cleargraze; Prowl H20; Remedy Ultra, Garlon 4 Ultra; Stinger HL; Surmount; NovaGraz Established plants only. Quinstar 4L

May be used in switchgrass at planting or as an early postemergence. Apply to other species only after seedlings are well established, as indicated by 5 collared leaves.

Facet L

No restrictions for switchgrass. Big bluestem, indiangrass, and little bluestem seedlings must be well established as indicated by 5 collared leaves. Eastern gamagrass is not mentioned.
