Virginia 4-H Congress gives young people the opportunity to develop leadership skills, explore new pathways, and build lifelong connections. Held June 16–19 on the Virginia Tech campus, the 2026 event brought together 4-H members from across the commonwealth under the theme “4-H Forever: Growing with Purpose.”

In her welcome message, Alyssa Walden, acting Virginia State 4-H Leader, encouraged delegates to fully embrace each opportunity to learn and lead.

“Just like a garden, growth takes time, care, courage, and community,” Walden said. “We hope you leave State Congress inspired, connected, and excited for what comes next.”

Throughout the four-day event, participants engaged in hands-on workshops, leadership development sessions, competitive events, and the Beyond Ready Fair, where they explored college, career, and service opportunities aligned with Virginia 4-H’s Beyond Ready initiative. Delegates also participated in district meetings and elections, the Teen Opportunity Fair, and the All-Star Tapping Ceremony.

The program included remarks from university and state leaders, including Dr. Mario Ferruzzi, dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Dr. Mike Gutter, director of Virginia Cooperative Extension, and Margaret Ann Smith, president of the Board of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

Evening activities offered opportunities for creativity and connection, featuring a performance by Clovers & Co., the statewide 4-H performing arts group, as well as congressional games, CloverFest, and a dance celebrating the week’s accomplishments.

Hosted on the Virginia Tech campus, Virginia 4-H Congress continues to provide an immersive experience where youth strengthen leadership, communication, and teamwork skills while forming friendships that extend well beyond the event.
